In this course, students examine the long-term financial decisions faced by business managers. These decisions include the choice of investment projects, financing methods and dividend policy.

This course is preluded by our CPT 1007: Corporate Finances I (starts in September 2022). Ideally, we would like to work with a company that has a project (or multiple projects) that can be worked on in both terms.

Dans ce cours, les étudiants examinent les décisions financières à long terme auxquelles sont confrontés les gestionnaires d'entreprise. Ces décisions comprennent le choix des projets d'investissement, les méthodes de financement et la politique de dividendes. L'accent est mis sur la décision d'investissement à long terme.

Ce cours est précédé par notre CPT 1007 : Corporate Finances I (commence en septembre 2022). Nous aimerions travailler avec une entreprise qui a un projet (ou plusieurs projets) sur lequel on peut travailler pendant les deux semestres.

Deliverables will depend on the project requirements but may include a presentation as well as a report outlining all pertinent findings.

Project Examples

This course is taught using English textbooks, therefore the students are fully bilingual. Projects can be completed in either French or English. The start date of the projects is also flexible. If the employer has one (or multiple) projects that can be extended over both semesters, that would be ideal.

By the end of the course, students will be able to analyze and interpret company data and produce corporate finance reports by applying commonly used methods and respecting financial principles.

Project topics that may fit within the course learning outcomes include:

  • Analyze and evaluate the current assets and liabilities of a company by applying commonly used methods and in accordance with financial principles.
  • Analyze and evaluate a company's long-term financial decisions regarding capital projects and financing methods, applying commonly used methods and in accordance with financial principles.
  • Cash and Marketable Securities Management
  • Short-term financing sources
  • Investment Choices in an Environment of Certainty

Ce cours est enseigné à l'aide de manuels anglais, les étudiants sont donc parfaitement bilingues. Les projets peuvent être réalisés en français ou en anglais. La date de début des projets est également flexible. L'idéal serait que l'employeur ait un (ou plusieurs) projet(s) qui puisse(nt) s'étendre sur les deux semestres.

Companies must answer the following questions to submit a match request to this experience:

Do you have a project (or multiple projects) that could be completed over the course of 2 semesters (September until April)?

Would you like students to work in French or English?

A representative of the company will be available for a pre-selection discussion with the administrator of the course to review the project scope.

A representative of the company will be available to answer questions from students in a timely manner for the duration of the project.
