Would you like to get a better understanding of your current computer hardware and software or are you looking to upgrade your systems? In this course, groups of students bring their knowledge of computer hardware and software concepts to help your organization address your hardware and/or software questions. Students will be able to compare differences between hardware used in enterprise, personal, and mobile computing devices. They will also study the functions of operating systems and device drivers and will be provided an overview of popular application software. The students will develop a report and presentation for your organization upon completion of the project.

Project Examples

Requirements

Beginning in September, students in groups of 3-5 will work with your company to identify your needs and provide actionable recommendations, based on their in-depth research and analysis.

Activities completed during the project might include but are not limited to:

  • Describing the general architecture of your computer system
  • Describing the features and functions of the hardware components of your computer system
  • Explaining the relationships between the hardware components
  • Configuring hardware settings and diagnosing basic hardware problems
  • Describing the features and functions of the software components of your computer system
  • Explaining the relationships between the software components
  • Completing production tasks using selected application software
